Emory S. Awes

Emory S. Awes, 88, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo, ND. Emory Seibert Awes was born on July 8, 1921, at Oak Park Township, Marshall County, Minnesota, to Carl H. and Clara S. (Knutson) Awes. Emory worked for American Crystal Sugar as an agriculturist in the northern Red River Valley, living in Cavalier, ND. In 1975, Emory moved his family to Fargo where he continued working for Crystal Sugar as Equipment Manager for the company. He retired in 1987. Emory was active at United Lutheran Church in Cavalier and in Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the army in the Pacific. Emory married Bernadine Holter in 1948. He is survived by his wife, Bernadine; four children; Duane (Peggy) Awes of Pocatello, ID; Deborah (Gordon) Johnson of Cavalier, ND; Robert (Ramona) Awes of Pocatello, ID; and Janet (Ron) Wieck of Hawley, MN. Grandchildren: David Viramontes, Melissa (Mike) Aarness; Becky (Chris) Hunter; Mike (Michelle) Johnson; Kari (Eric) Dick; Maia (Tom) Farrens; Christopher Awes; Elise Wieck; Jordan Wieck. Great-Grandchildren: Lucas and Sara Aarness; Caitlyn, James, Natalie, and Elayna Hunter; Paige, Brooke and Ella Johnson; Brenna, Maggie and Matthew Dick; Daphne, Tommy and Colby Farrens. Siblings: Phyllis (Roger) Anderson of Kaukauna, WI; Dennis (Sally) Awes of Perham, MN, Clayton (Maria) Awes of Webster, WI and sister-in-law Leone (Ray) Awes of Grand Forks, ND. Emory is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marilyn Joyce Awes; grandson, Eric Awes; brother, Ray Awes. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo. Burial will be Saturday in Cavalier, ND, at 4:30 p.m.
