Emma E. Wickie, 92, of Fargo, ND, died Monday, January 22, 2007, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND. Emma Elvira Nelsen was born June 23, 1914, in Stephen, Minnesota, daughter of Torkild and Gerda (Berntson) Nelson. She grew up and graduated from Stephen High School in 1933. After working at a local drug store, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator in Stephen. She was united in marriage with Frederick A. Wickie of Hallock, Minnesota, on November 15, 1936, and resided in Hallock until 1957. During her married life, she was primarily involved in being a homemaker and a mother, but was active in church work, Star Points and Worthy Matron of Lota Chapter O.E.S., hospital and nursing home auxiliaries. She was employed at the J.C. Penney store in Fargo from 1962, until retiring in 1974, to live on Lake Franklin near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, before going back to Fargo in 1983. She had been a member of Messiah Lutheran Church since 1961, with time-out for membership in Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, while living on Lake Franklin. She has been a faithful worker in Messiah’s quilting activity. Since 1983, she has been a member of the Auxiliary to Rosewood on Broadway Nursing Home, formerly known as Fargo Nursing Home. Emma is survived by two sons, Richard (Loretta) Wickie, Hunter, ND; Thomas (Karen) Wickie, Windom, MN; one daughter, Mary (Robert “Coke”) Smith, Fargo, ND; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Frederick A. Wickie; parents and seven sisters. Memorial Service: Thursday, January 25, 2007, at 11:00 AM, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
