Emil Wieland, Fargo, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019.
Emil was born in Streeter, North Dakota on June 9, 1923, to Matilda (Schlenker) and Emil Wieland. Emil was married to Viola Olstad on September 14, 1947, in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Emil was very outgoing and talented. He lit up every room he entered. When he was young, he played guitar and sang on the radio with his brother Ed. He played both high school and college football and ran track. He was an all-state football player and ran a 10-flat 100-yard dash. Emil worked as Administrator of Jamestown Hospital for 30 years. He served as President of the Upper Midwest Hospital Association and on the Board for Blue Cross Blue Shield of ND. Emil was a decorated war veteran. He was a Corporal in the 6th Tactical Air Communications Squadron, Ninth Air Force. He had four major battle stars, including landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day.
Most importantly, Emil was a great family man. He taught us the value of hard work and determination. He taught us love, kindness and generosity by his words and how he lived his life. His love and kindness will live on in all he touched.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Bethany on 42nd where he made his home the past three years. They made him feel like family.
