Elna Lorraine Brierley

Elna Lorraine (Moe) Brierley, 91, of Moorhead, died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Elna was born August 8, 1925 in Fargo, ND to Hans R. and Mathilda "Tillie" Moe. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1943 and continued her education at North Dakota State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics and Science Education in 1948. Elna went on to teach Home Economics and Science in Harvey, ND.

Elna met her husband, Bryan Norris Brierley while attending NDSU and they married August 18, 1949. After marriage they lived in Fargo while Bryan finished school, and she taught sewing at the Singer Store in downtown Fargo. Over the years she used her Home Economics degree raising her family. They have lived in Minneapolis, MN; Hutchinson, MN; Des Moines, IA and Moorhead, MN and retired to their lake home on Pelican Lake, MN spending their winters in Gilbert, AZ. She was a proud Gamma Phi Beta Alumni and loved First Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Norris Brierley in 2013; her father, Hans R. Moe in 1965 and her mother, Mathilda "Tillie" Hage Moe in 1985 and a brother Alvin Einer Moe, who the family lost during WWII in 1945.

She is survived by three children and their spouses: Bruce (Carol) Brierley, Mesa, AZ; Pamela (David) Mortensen, Marana, AZ; Diana (Luigi) Stewart, Spokane, WA and six grandchildren.
