Ellsworth Shirley

Ellsworth M. Shirley died Friday, November 30, 2007. He was born October 6, 1914 in Christine, ND to Edward and Gena (Becker) Shirley. Al attended Central High School in Fargo, ND. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps and served as a B-29 Radar Operator in India and China. On February 14, 1948, Al married Helen Jane Rodenkirch in Moorhead, MN. Al worked in sales for Standard Brands, Inc. until he retired in 1974. He was employed at NDSU until he retired again in 1993. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald. Ellsworth is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Julie (Dr. James) Frisk, Fargo; his sons, Reverend Craig (Carol) Shirley, Shoreview, MN and Dr. E. Kent Shirley (Virginia Carter), Fargo; sister, Marjorie (Robert) McMains, Belleview, WA; brother, Dennis Shirley, Tacoma, WA; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church Foundation or Meritcare Palliative Care.
