Elizabeth was born April 14, 1917 to Hilda and Emil Johnson on a farm northwest of Amenia, North Dakota. Her parents had immigrated to the United States from Sweden shortly before and located on the farm with their children.
It wasn’t long after Elizabeth’s birth that the family moved within 2 miles of Amenia to a place named “The Corners.” It consisted of 6 farms all on the bank of the Rush River with farm land extending in the back of each.
Elizabeth, nicknamed “Dibbs”, attended the Amenia School. She enjoyed playing on the girls basketball team for several years. She was the N.D. State free throw shooting champion and won several contests in dramatics. She graduated from Amenia High School as Valedictorian. Later she attended Fargo Business College and worked as a secretary at Carlisle and Bristol Hardware Company, in Fargo, for several years.
Above all, Dibbs loved her family and was very dedicated to them. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She always had time for a cup of coffee and a good conversation. She had a way to make everyone feel very special. Dibbs and her friends formed a Sewing Club that continued for over 65 years!
Dibbs lived in her North Fargo home until 2011, when she moved to Bethany Retirement on University in Fargo. She passed away April 2, 2019 at Bethany after a short stay at Sanford Hospital. She was forever grateful for the wonderful care she received at Bethany and the many friends she acquired there.
Vern, her beloved husband of 53 years, passed away in 1994. Her parents, four sisters and a brother also preceded her in death. Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Diane (Dan) Loucks in Owensboro, KY, Marilyn Sather in Albuquerque, NM, one son, Richard (Becky), in Fargo, N.D. and 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from on Wednesday, April 10th from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at First Presbyterian Church (650 2 Ave, N, Fargo). A funeral service will follow at 2:00PM. Interment will be with family at Riverside Cemetery.
