Elizabeth I. Hansen Lura Marweg Davis, 89, Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Villa Maria in Fargo. Memorial Services will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND, Pastor Doug Klungtvedt officiating.
Elizabeth Davis, known as Betty or Liz, was born on January 14, 1925, To Anna and Soren Hansen, on the Hansen farm in rural Hawley, MN where she grew up. She married Orvis Lura and they lived outside of Glyndon, MN, moving for a short time to Montana and then returning to Glyndon to raise their four sons. She later married Elmer Marweg and after two years moved to their lake home outside of Dent, MN. They later moved into Perham, MN. Following Elmer’s death, she moved to Dilworth, MN, where she met and married Bob Davis on May 1, 2010.
Betty spent most of her life as a homemaker and entertainer. She is well remembered for her excellent breads and rolls. Betty truly loved music and she played the guitar and sang in small bands most of her life and she amazed people with her exceptional yodeling skills. In her later years, the band played at many local assisted living facilities where people enjoyed the classic older country music tunes that are seldom heard now. She also enjoyed knitting, playing cards, watching softball games, and traveling. Her message to family and friends was “Laugh Always”.
Betty is survived by her four sons, Orville (Debra) Lura, Gerald (Bonnie) Lura, Dale (Cindy) Lura and Dennis (Gayle) Lura, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, who died shortly after birth; husbands, Orvis Lura, Elmer Marweg, and Bob Davis; 3 sisters, Carrie Johnson, Inger Robertson, and Mae Weaver; and 3 brothers, Charlie Hansen, Harry Hansen, and Floyd Hansen.
Memorials can be sent to The Hospice of the Red River Valley or Pontopiddan Lutheran Church.
