Elizabeth "Liz" Ann Christian passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Moorhead Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Moorhead, MN.
Liz was born November 17, 1927, to Harry and Anna (Forsberg) Christian. Growing up, she split her time between Fargo and California but graduated from Central High School in Fargo. She earned her bachelor's from North Dakota State University and taught physical education for three years in Hallock, MN. She then pursued her master's in library science from the University of Wisconsin. She worked at several libraries across the Midwest before deciding to move to the West Coast in 1961.
Liz settled into life in Concord, California, but in true Liz fashion, she did not settle down. She worked as a librarian at Martinez Unified School District and started her own landscaping business. She also spent many memorable summers with her nieces in Concord and Pacific Grove.
In 1995, Liz returned to Fargo to be closer to family. She used this opportunity to become actively involved in her grand-nieces' lives. She was generous with both her time and resources and formed a special bond with each of the girls.
Liz was a free spirit and forever young at heart. She radiated warmth and joy and loved to socialize. These qualities helped her make fast friends anywhere she went, whether it was at the grocery store or the veterinarian's office. Everybody knew Liz was coming when they spotted her pristine 1969 Mercury Montego MX station wagon.
Liz's many interests included science, sports, and reading. She stayed active well into her later years, tending to her garden and biking. She also loved music and was a regular attendee at the Concordia Christmas concert. In addition, she was proud of her English heritage. She was known to enjoy a "wee spot of tea," woke early in the morning to watch royal events, and made traditional English trifles for holidays. Her true passion in life, however, was dogs. Liz raised, loved, and trained several dogs throughout her life. In doing so, she taught her family the importance of patience and respect toward animals and that there is no shame in throwing your dog a birthday party.
Liz's family will miss her infectious laughter, her catchphrases, and her zest for life. They are thankful she has been reunited with her parents, siblings Gordon Christian and Dorothea Driscoll, niece Kathy Driscoll, and of course, her dogs. Her family imagines that she let out her infamous, "By Jove!" when she was greeted by her loved ones at heaven's gate.
Liz is survived by her nieces Lisa Driscoll, Jerrilyn (Steven) Myers, Jenny (Jeff) Krattiger, as well as many grand and great-grand-nieces and nephews, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Moorhead Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the compassionate services provided at the end of her life.
Per Liz's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to 4 Luv of Dog Rescue or Concordia College.
