Einar Lyng was born in Fargo, North Dakota December 3, 1927, to Thomas and Ragnhilda (Johnson) Lyng.

He left us forever to dance with his beloved Dona, June 11, 2021.

Einar lived a life full of all the expectations of a long life. He knew great love and great sorrow, but he also knew acceptance and contentment. He joined the Army and served in post war Japan. Upon his return home he joined the National Guard and was called to serve in Korea in 1951. Einar met his forever sweetheart, Dona Knudson, and married her in 1949. He said he knew when he saw her, he was going to marry her! This started a lifelong love of over 70 years. Through the years Einar had a love of wood working, he made everything from beautiful clocks to a catamaran sailboat. He worked for several companies as a Heating and Air Conditioning Expert. Making many friends along the way, leaving them with a whistle and a smile!

Einar is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Dona; sons, Thomas and Daniel Lyng; grandson, Dan Lyng.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Tim (Becky) Lyng; daughters, Karen (Mike) Thiel and Lyn Schick; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his sweet dog, Bella, who demanded they go for "walks" every day, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our deep appreciation to his Sanford Hospice team. A special thanks to his friends Marissa and Chellie who were so dear to him. Thanks also to the Bethany on University Staff on Elmwood Square for their tender care.

We said goodbye to a Dear Lady.

Dona Mae (Knudson) Lyng, 88 passed away peacefully in Fargo, ND on May 20, 2020 with her family by her side. Dona was born in Fargo, ND on February 1, 1932 to Bennie and Agnes (Olsen) Knudson.

On June 28, 1949 Dona married Einar Lyng and this began an amazing legacy. Dona was a foster mom for Lutheran Social Services for 5 years; taking in more than 50 babies, sometimes 3 at a time, all the while raising 5 children of her own. In 1969 she started working at the Fargo Public Library, touching many lives through the years, until her retirement in February of 1994. After her retirement, Dona and Einar followed their love of the “lake life”. Having spent many years with a cabin on Lake Lida, they built a beautiful home on Lake Buchanan, near Ottertail, MN. That is where her “Green Thumb’ bloomed!!! Everybody sampled Grandma's veggies!!!

Those welcoming Dona home are her parents, Bennie and Agnes; sons, Thomas and Daniel Lyng; brothers, Donald, Brent, Alan, and Reo Knudson; and sister, Bernice Paseka.

The ones left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 71 years, Einar Lyng; son, Tim (Becky) Lyng; daughters, Karen (Mike) Thiel and Lyn Schick; grandchildren, Ben (Lynse) and Dan Lyng; Tom (Regina) and Tyler (Krista) Thiel; Cody (Beca), Katie and Collin Schick; great grandchildren, Anders Lyng, Caden and Coraline Thiel; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
