Eileen Hehn

January 18, 1954 — July 2, 2021

Eileen Hehn, 67, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2021 surrounded and embraced by her family.

Eileen was born on January 18, 1954 to parents Theodore and Rosella (Graf) Dewald. She was raised in Streeter, ND. Born the last of seven children, she often joked her parents were too tired to give her a middle name. Eileen graduated from Streeter High School in 1972. She would go on to study at NDSCS and NDSU, and to earn a degree as a Registered Nurse. She married Jerome on November 8, 1974 and the two made their home in Fargo where they raised their three children.

More than anything, Eileen loved being a nurse. During her 45-year career in nursing, she helped countless people while working in Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Hospice Care, and the PACU. She had boundless patience and was beloved by her nursing students. She was happiest when caring for others, and without a doubt, felt nursing had been her life's calling.

In her retirement, Eileen also enjoyed gardening, crafting, playing bingo, happy hours and vacationing with her girlfriends, and binging Netflix with Jerome.

Eileen was a stubborn German known for her honesty, big heart and sharp sense of humor. She loved to bake and never showed up somewhere without a pan of bars in hand. She was a fantastic cook, and hands-down made the best German food.

She will be forever missed by her husband, Jerome; children, Marcie (Charlie) Vantine, Kimberly Lysne, and Tyler Hehn; and five grandchildren, Theo and Smith Vantine, and Kyson, Emma and Avery Lysne. She is also survived by her sisters, Madelyn Hoffer, Bernice (Floyd) Schauer, and Janet (Earl) Johnson; brothers, Delmer (Donna) Dewald, Marvin Dewald, and Rev. Ted Jr. (Marlene) Dewald; brothers-in-law, Dean (Iris) Hehn, Ronald Hehn and Darryl Hehn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a date TBD later this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the North Dakota State University School of Nursing ( www.givetondsu.com/college-of-health-professions-donation ), The Daisy Foundation ( www.daisyfoundation.org/donate ), or to a charity of the donor's choice.
