Edna Marie Hudson 78 of Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the Merit Care Hospital, Fargo, ND. Edna was born to Fred and Marie (Score) Hudson on July 26, 1928, in Richland County, ND. She was baptized on September 16, 1928, and confirmed on May 16, 1943, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Colfax, ND. In 1943, she graduated from grade school at Nansen Township School # 2, and then went one year to high school at the Crippled Children’s School in Jamestown, ND. Edna was active in Nansen Township with: 4-H Clubs for over 17 years; Homemakers Club for 39 years; and, was treasurer of the School Board for six years. She wrote news for the Richland County Farmers-Globe for ten years. In 1962, she moved to Fargo, joined Messiah Lutheran Church and was: secretary of Stewardship committee; assembled the “Messenger”; and, was chairman of Sunshine Committee sending cards to members. She also participated in LCW units holding several offices. Edna joined the Red River Valley Handicap Club in 1963. She was very active with offices and committees. She represented this club at the Fargo Mayor’s and ND Governor’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped. Each spring, Edna participated in the Hobby Show. She was talented making all kinds of crafts and ceramics. She won many ribbons at these shows as well as at the Red River Valley Fair. She was awarded a certificate in recognition of her originality in submitting the winning entry “New Horizons Manor” for the apartment for Independent Living for the Handicapped in Fargo, ND. In 1982, she joined the Fargo Park District Handicapped Bowling Team where she won many ribbons and trophies. In 1983, she had the honor to roll the first ball at the ND women’s State Bowling Championships. Wheel chair Square Dancing was a highlight for Edna starting in 1981. The “Spinning Wheels” performed at many functions including the MN State Convention in Duluth. Edna was active in the Fargo-Moorhead Area Chapter of the Spina-Bifida Association and the Easter-Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults of ND, Inc. Since Edna was so active, she learned to drive a car in 1976 using hand controls. She loved to travel with handicapped tours including trips to Hawaii, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Florida, Nashville, Williamsburg, VA, Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Plymouth and Concord, MA. Edna is survived by two brothers: Loran (Mona) Hudson, Wyndmere, ND and Ray (Marlys) Hudson, Colfax, ND; two sisters: Marjean Miller, Fargo, ND and Joyce (Alton) Leedahl Benson, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Ruth Hahn. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, July 15, 2007, at 11:30 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
