Edna Marie (Bartholomaus) Berg, 94, of Fargo, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Rosewood on Broadway. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 1 p.m.
Edna was born March 2, 1918, in Leonard, ND. She was the granddaughter of German immigrants. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to a farm southeast of Moorhead. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, MN, and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1936. While caring for the children of a family in south Fargo, she met Ralph M. Berg, whom she married after his service in World War II ended in 1945.
Over the next several decades, she raised two children, served as a Cub Scout leader and Sunday School superintendent, and worked as a seamstress at Black’s, a women’s clothing store in downtown Fargo. Edna was an active member of First Lutheran for more than 50 years. She had many friends and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Stephen (Dixie) Berg, Minneapolis, MN; daughter, Sheila (Russell) McCurdy, Lee, NH; two grandchildren, Alex Berg, New York City; and Hannah Jacobson (Andrew), Durham, NC.; and one sister, Marietta Gunderson, Moorhead, MN.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, parents and two brothers, Alvin and Bud.
Memorials are preferred to Rosewood on Broadway, Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Parish Nurse program at First Lutheran Church.
