Earle Duane Lien, 92, beloved Father, was called to his eternal resting place on November 8, 2021. He entered this world on October 27, 1929, in Portland, ND, born to Erling and Della Lien. He was baptized and confirmed at Aurdal Lutheran Church.
Earle was drafted into the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. While in the Army, he met Shelby Jean Bass. They were married in Alabama in October 1957.
Earle worked as a mechanic in Northwood and Hunter, ND. He volunteered with many organizations, including Hunter Ambulance and Hunter Fire Department. He was also a member of Hunter American Legion and was a hunting safety instructor.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and enjoying outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing. Earle and Shelby took pleasure traveling to visit friends and relatives, seeing all fifty states, Canada, Europe, and Norway. Earle was hard-working, honest, and always willing to help others.
He is preceded in death by his parents Erling and Della Lien, sister Judell Aarestad (Elton), Elaine Rygg (Donald), Ruth Plath (John). He is survived by his spouse Shelby Lien, son Michael Lien (Heidi), son David Lien (Athena), son Sidney Lien (Jennifer), daughter Tricia Schmitz (Rodney). Grandchildren Kristian Lien (Kayla), Brianna Lien, Karina Lien, Andrew Lien, Joshua Lien, Lindsey Lien, Hailey Schmitz, Hunter Schmitz.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on November 22 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place the following day at the Fargo National Cemetery in Harwood, ND.
