Earl Ellis Williams, 79, Fargo, North Dakota, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Earl, son of Roy and Loena (Ellis) Williams, was born May 8, 1935 in Bemidji, MN. He grew up and attended grade school in Doran, MN. He moved with his family to Breckenridge, MN and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1953. After high school he attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, graduated and began a radio career in Glendive, MT. In 1965 he moved to Fargo where he met and then married Sharon Korum in 1975. He worked radio in Fargo until 1986; 16 of those years at WDAY, where he was the “Voice of the Bison” and half of the “Earl and Don” morning show. Earl’s career in radio spanned 33 years. After retirement from radio, Earl was a tour director for several tour companies.
Earl was past President of the ND Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. He was past winner of the ND High School Activities Association Award of Merit. Earl was also former JC Speakup winner and in demand as a local banquet speaker. He was an avid golfer and had a “Hole in One” in 1965. He also enjoyed bowling, as well as playing baseball and softball. At one point, he played on championship teams in three different states.
Earl is survived by his wife Sharon; his daughters, April Williams, May Tomporoski, June McCammon, and Kim (Jerome) Colvin; two special grandchildren, Lynda Colvin and Joseph (Heather) Colvin; sister-in-law, Jeanette (Bill) Needham; and five nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
