Earl Hegstad

Earl Hegstad, 96, Fargo, ND, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimers disease. Earl, formerly from Grafton, ND, was born April 8, 1911, on his maternal grandparents farm near Fort Ranson, North Dakota, son of Sivert and Paula (Peterson) Hegstad. He was raised in Dickey, North Dakota and graduated from high school in LaMoure, North Dakota. Earl married Mary Louise Gussmann May 8, 1937, and began a retail manager career with Gamble Skogmo. That career led him to the purchase of a business commonly known in the Grafton and surrounding areas as Earl’s Shoe Store. Earl and Mary owned the business for over 25 years. Mary passed away June 29, 1980. Earl married Josephine Gussmann June 12, 1982, and moved to Fargo, ND, where he was active in Senior Corp of Retired Excecutives (SCORE), home delivered meals, food pantry, Kiwanis as well as activities in his church. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, Fargo, ND; son, Gerry (Loretta) Hegstad, Mandan, ND; brother, Kenneth (Peggy) Colombia, MO; grandchildren, Justin (Karin) Hegstad; Holly (David) Gulland; Mary Beth Hegstad; and three great-grandchildren, all of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a brother and two sisters. Funeral Service: Friday, May 25, 2007, at 11 AM, at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Thursday, May 24, 2007, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
