Duane Roger Cornell, 84, of Fargo, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Villa Maria, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Duane Cornell was born on February 13, 1930 in Moorhead, MN. He graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1948. He married Shirley Thyse on June 14, 1952 at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church near Dalton, MN.
He owned and operated the GreenMill Café on University Drive from 1953 to 1961. He then went to work for Northern States Power, which is now Xcel Energy, in the steam plant in 1961 in Grand Forks, ND. He then sold appliances for NSP in Grand Forks. In 1965, he was transferred to Minot, ND as the merchandise manager for 8 months. In 1966 he was transferred to Winona, MN as the merchandise manager of the Hiawatha Division. In 1969, the family moved back to Fargo where he worked with gas sales and energy audits. He retired in 1991.
Shirley and Dewey enjoyed their lake cabin, going to Tucson, AZ and golfing. Dewey enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins and watching football, especially the Minnesota Vikings.
He is survived by his son, Steven (Nanette) Cornell, Mandan, ND and daughter, Jane, Fargo, ND; sister, Karen (Charles) Bopp, Carrollton, TX and granddaughter, Anita, Mandan, ND and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents, Edith and W.W. (Bob) Cornell; and brothers, Keith & Darrell.
