Stanley Thompson

April 8, 1933 — October 26, 2011

Stanley Dean Thompson was born April 8, 1933, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Orville and Gladys (Weiss) Thompson. He grew up in Fargo and Page, ND. A proud Eagle Scout, Stan graduated from Page High School before receiving his BS from the University of North Dakota, where he was a Phi Beta Kappa member, and his MD from the University of Pennsylvania. While an intern at St. Luke’s Hospital, Stan met Denise Lindseth, a nursing student who was to become his wife of 50 years. They were married on May 19, 1962. Stan completed a residency in radiology at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN, before moving with his family back to Fargo, where he worked for 38 years as a radiologist with St. Luke’s Hospital and MeritCare. Stan was a skilled photographer with a love of the outdoors. These passions are reflected in his stunning photographs of the scenery and wildlife of the North Dakota badlands. However, Stan’s greatest love was for his family. This love was also captured in Stan’s photography, but it is present even more vividly in the memories he created. These memories will be cherished forever by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Stan passed away on October 26, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Gladys. He is survived by his wife, Denise; by his children, Dr. Brent (Erika) Thompson, of Northville, MI, Jeff (Jennifer) Thompson, of Phoenix, AZ, and Michelle (Dr. David) Stover, of Horace, ND; and by his grandchildren, Kyle, CJ, Maggie Mae, Allie, and Emily; his brother, Bruce. Funeral Service: Friday, October 28, 2011, at 10:00 AM, at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
