In Loving Memory of Dorothy Mae Elizabeth Lindblad Ostby
1930 - 2023
Dorothy Mae Elizabeth Lindblad Ostby was born on August 21, 1930, in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Dorothy peacefully departed this life in December 2023. She was the cherished daughter of Clarence and Minnie Lindblad, the youngest of seven siblings.
Dorothy was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Svea Lutheran Church in Svea, MN. Dorothy graduated from Willmar High School in 1947. In 1948, her life took a beautiful turn when she met Alfred Ostby from Benson, MN, at a Saturday night Barn Dance. Following their engagement later that year, they exchanged vows on December 17, 1949, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. The couple then relocated to Minneapolis, MN, where Alfred pursued his business degrees at the University of Minnesota.
In December 1952, Alfred and Dorothy embarked on a new chapter, moving from Minneapolis to Fargo, ND, to begin their family. They were charter members at Messiah Lutheran Church in north Fargo where Dorothy played a vital role in various church activities.
In 1974, they built their retirement home on Big Floyd Lake in Detroit Lakes, MN. They became members of First Lutheran Church where Dorothy continued her active involvement in a myriad of community activities.
Returning to South Fargo in 2014 for Alfred's medical care, Dorothy lived independently until the age of 92. In September 2022, she was the inaugural resident of the new Fargo Elim Health Care Center.
Dorothy found joy in playing cards, indulging in crafts and puzzles, and radiated warmth as a social butterfly who greeted everyone with a contagious smile.
Throughout their lives, Dorothy and Alfred were blessed with three children: Deb (Brad) Hanson, Paul (Dianne), and Cindy (Rob) Kraft. Her heart overflowed with love for her grandchildren-Thomas, Jessica, Olaf, Gunnar, Nathan, Katelyn, Joshua, and Alicia-and great-grandchildren-Lauren, Lucas, Hayes, Emilia, Colten, Drew, Solveig, Braydon, Tanner, Kennedy, and Kacie. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lauren Brianne Ostby and her husband, Alfred.
A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's life will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18, 2024, with a visitation one hour prior at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo, ND. Burial will be at Fargo National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials to the Messiah Lutheran Foundation/Hour of Worship - Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND, or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
