Dorothy Ellen Minnis, 77, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2007, under the compassionate, loving and dignified care of Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN, which she considered her home. On September 9, 1929, as the Great Depression came crashing down upon the world, a newborn child came crashing onto the scene in La Jolla, California. Bright red hair, bright blue eyes and a sparkling and irrepressible charm, this new child, Dorothy Ellen Moore, mesmerized everyone with whom she came in contact for her entire life. She was born to Ira and Grace (Quin) Moore and spent her early childhood on a dairy farm in La Jolla, in very modest means, as have many of us. Her favorite activity then was riding horses. She walked several miles to Pacific Beach Elementary School and moved on to La Mesa Junior High School and then to High School. Dottie was in many high school activities, the most outstanding of which being her years as a very pretty majorette. She graduated from Grossmont Union High School in 1947, and quickly got a job at Union Title and Trust Company in downtown San Diego. Many of her high school classmates have remained her close friends all her life. Dorothy Ellen Moore and Robert L. Minnis were married at Central Congregational Church in La Mesa, California, on September 25, 1949. She managed a home, several as a matter of fact, and raised a son and a daughter, who have been rocks of support in this time of trial. There are six beautiful and bright grandchildren, a legacy that made her proud. Dottie was always willing, ever eager, to risk moving to far places as opportunities came their way. In Fargo, North Dakota, Dottie served many years as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, taking routes that others declined to serve. Dottie had one sister and five brothers. It can honestly be said that Dottie was far and away the most considerate and sharing of them all, to her parents, and to all whom she met in her entire life. Even in physical hardship and decline, Dottie always found ways to reach out, to say thank you and to smile at those who helped her. In many ways, Dorothy Moore Minnis was a very private person. She could not or did not readily express some of her personal feelings. She believed in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She believed him when he said “In my father’s house are many mansions. I go now to prepare a place for you.” God Bless You Honey! Dottie’s remaining family, in addition to husband, Bob, are son, Don (Janell) Minnis; daughter, Linda (Dr. Kevin) Schumacher; and grandchildren, Grant Minnis, Scott Minnis, Robert Schumacher, Kristin Schumacher, Lacy Schumacher, and Kevin Phillip Schumacher. For friends considering a memorial of flowers or other gifts for Dorothy, it is the request of the family that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to the Serenity Memorial Fund in honor of Dorothy. Gifts should be sent to State Bank & Trust, Trust Division, PO Box 10877, Fargo, ND 58106 fbo Serenity Memorial Fund. Memorial Service: Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 10:00 A.M, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 901 N. Broadway - Fargo, ND. (Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND)
