Dorothy Mae Bjerke

Dorothy Bjerke, 84, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at her home.

Dorothy Mae Benson was born June 30, 1929 in Northwood, ND to Arthur and Emma (Grefsheim) Benson. She graduated from Hatton High School. She married Orvis Bjerke at Washington Prairie Church, Hatton, ND.

Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of Fairview Hospital School of Nursing and worked at Worthington Hospital, Worthington, MN; Union Hospital, Mayville, ND; and the Hatton Prairie Village. Dorothy and Orvis lived and farmed near Hatton, ND, and were married for 45 years until his death in 1996.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Julie Blehm, Fargo, ND; Rebecca (John) Mason, Edina, MN; Beth (Bill) Remington, Prosper, TX; Mary (Daniel Sauvageau) Bjerke, Fargo, ND; and Carol Bjerke, Fargo, ND; brother, Duane (Marie) Benson, Northfield, MN; grandchildren, Ben and Amy Blehm, Reid (Kate) Mason, Carolyn (Ed) Kammeyer, Sam Risley, Emily (Dru) Cambron, Jose Sauvageau, Evan and Aidan Wilkerson; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orvis; sister, Arlene Benson; sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Leon Lunas; and son-in-law, David Blehm.

Memorials are preferred to Special Olympics North Dakota, Area 6; Camp Sioux – American Diabetes Association, ND; or Prairie Village, Hatton, ND.
