Dorothea E. Reid, 99, of Fargo, ND, died peacefully under the loving care of her
family on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at her home at Touchmark at Harwood Groves, Fargo.
Dorothea “Dot” Elizabeth Golliet was born February 1, 1915 in Gardner, ND to Peter and Elizabeth (Logan) Golliet. They moved to Beach, ND where she attended school, graduating from Beach High School in 1932. Following high school, she attended McPhail Conservatory of Music in Minneapolis, MN. She moved back to the Gardner area, where she met Thomas Reid. After
dating for five years, they married on November 28, 1940 in Fargo, ND, and were married for 72 years. They lived on a farm in Kelso, ND. Tom died the morning of December
24, 2012.
Dot was a choir director in Minneapolis and the Grandin area, and was a wonderful piano player throughout her life. She sang in the Sweet Adelines and the Inspiration Gospel Group. She loved to care for her family, and would set elaborate dinner tables with beautiful place settings as every day was a special occasion. Dot traveled to Scotland, England, and throughout the continental United States. She was involved in the Homemaker’s Club, Birthday Club, the Barbershop Singers of Fargo, and the St. Andrew’s Society.
She will always be remembered for her outstanding sense of humor, love for children, and her artistic flare. She was a gracious person, with an abundantly generous spirit.
Dot is survived by daughters, Susan Stevenson, Madison Lake, MN; Bonnie Reid, West Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; three brothers; and five sisters.
