Doris Sand, 91, of Fargo, ND passed away at Bethany Homes on July 1, 2020 under the care of Ethos Hospice.

Doris Kate Semmens was born on January 10, 1929 to James and Nina (Jacobsen) Semmens in Karnak, ND. She spent her childhood in Karnak and Kimball, MN before her family moved to Litchville, ND, where she completed high school. While there, she met her future husband.After completing Dakota Business College she started work in the Northern Pacific freight office before marrying Jerry Sand on December 16, 1950. They started their family while Jerry served in the military in Germany during the Korean conflict. They lived in Benson Corner and Wahpeton, ND before settling in Fargo and completing their family. Doris and Jerry built the only house they ever owned in north Fargo, and Doris continued to live thereafter Jerry's death in 1987. She was able to live there independently until 2012.

Doris suffered with dementia and received wonderful assistance while living first at Edgewood Vista and then Bethany Living, both in Fargo. She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Hager, Heidi Sand and Nina Sand all of Fargo; and one son, Maure (Sharon) Sand of Dent MN. She is also survived by five grandchildren Krista (Jeffrey) Kacerik, Andrea (Justin) Trush, Michael (Molissa) Hager, Kelsey (Chad) Komnick, and Callie Sand, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister Janice (Earl) Strinden, and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerrold, her parents James and Nina Semmens, two sisters LaFerne Beglau and Corrine Opdahl, two nephews and several cousins. The family wishes to thank Bethany Homes for their endless patience in providing the best possible care to Doris, both physically and mentally.

Memorial Service: 1pm, Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND with a visitation one hour prior. The service will also be streamed on the Hanson-Runsvold website.
Burial: North LaMoure Cemetery, LaMoure, ND.
