Doris Ann Runsvold died peacefully on September 30, 2018, in Fargo, ND, under the care of the wonderful staff of Rosewood on Broadway and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Doris Hinze was born March 6, 1928 in Chicago Il., to August and Amanda Hinze. She grew up there and graduated from Steinmetz High School. She attended Northwestern University. Doris married James D. Runsvold, June 24, 1950, in Chicago. They lived in Fargo, ND where they raised their three children. They operated Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home for many years. After retiring in 1983 Jim and Doris moved to Scottsdale, AZ. Doris was an active member of First Lutheran Church where she sang in the Cathedral Choir. She was a volunteer with Lutheran Social Services and many other organizations. Doris returned to Fargo in 2014, after the death of her husband Jim, and lived at Edgewood Vista. She moved to Rosewood on Broadway in January of this year.
Doris enjoyed many hobbies and interests including knitting, cross stitching, needle point, origami, crafts, building doll houses, playing cards and golf. She shared many of her handy works with family and friends. Doris was the queen of gadgets and excited to share her latest discovery with all of us. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was their greatest cheerleader in their successes and supported them when needed. Grandma Doris had the most honest heart with an unmatched wit and humor, mixed with a true German persona.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Bruce) Brierley, Mesa, AZ.; John (Cydney) Runsvold, Fargo, ND , Cathy (Michael) Funovits, Cold Spring, MN; eight grandchildren, Soozie Miller, Sioux Falls, SD; Stacy (Ryan) Miller Howlett, Sioux Falls, SD; Jordan (Jeny) Runsvold, Fargo, ND; Rachel Runsvold Blankenship, Moorhead, MN; Lauren (Jay) Siebels, Moorhead, MN; Ben (Samantha) Funovits, Hudson, WI; Sam (Allison Lightfield) Funovits, Saint Cloud, MN; Bryan Brierley, Mesa, AZ; seven great grandchildren, Emily and Jack Runsvold, Jett and Lillian Blankenship, Emmett Siebels, Corbin and Malin Howlett and great granddaughter Siebels due in November.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Sheldon Berman, brother-in-law, Paul Runsvold and his wife, Jenny.
