Doris L. McDonald, 93, of Fargo, ND, died Monday, June 13, in Bethany Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Doris was born Doris Lorraine Jirak to Jake and Lena Jirak on September 18, 1928. She was born on the family farm near Doran, MN. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1946 and attended Interstate Business College.
Doris married Marcus L. McDonald on April 24, 1948, in Doran, MN. The couple made their home in various locations, including Breckenridge, MN, Colorado Springs, CO, Williston, ND, and finally, Fargo, ND, where they raised their children. Doris also retired after 17 years from Dakota Monument Company, Fargo, ND.
Doris was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was very instrumental in helping her husband run the North Dakota Boys State program for 18 years.
After retirement, Doris and Marcus spent many winters in Mesa, AZ, where they enjoyed friends and family visits away from the cold winters.
She is survived by her three children, James (Annie Odne) McDonald, (Fargo, ND), Lori, (Rochester, MN), and Daniel, (Minneapolis, MN); ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A seventh great-grandchild is expected this fall.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marcus, sister Arlene, twin sister Dallas, and brothers James and Arthur.
