Donald K. Wenaas, son of Marvel and Alice, was born October 3, 1935 in Mayville, ND. As a young child he traveled with the family in search of employment until returning to Hunter for his formative years. He graduated from Hunter High School in 1953. Upon graduation he began his college education at NDSU before setting this aside for active duty in the United States Navy. He traveled the world on the USS Hornet. He returned to NDSU, completing his business degree in 1963. On June 4, 1960, he married Connie L. Ramstad in Hunter, ND. The couple resided in Fargo their entire married life together. Upon graduation, Don found employment with Ford Motor Corporation. Upon Ford’s departure from the city, Don worked in the business office at Moorhead State University. A better opportunity arose with the Fargo Public Schools where he served as Director of Purchasing until his retirement in 1997. Don had enjoyed his retirement and had anxiously awaited Connie’s retirement scheduled for 2003. Connie passed away in December of 2002. Don enjoyed spending time at the family lake home in Becker County, setting up permanent residency there for the summer months. He maintained his love for travel over the past few years taking trips to Las Vegas, The Caribbean, Mexico, Thailand and China. He has been an active member of the El Zagal Shrine and loved the friendships and activities that brought. Despite the loss of his wife and ongoing health issues, Don maintained his compassionate demeanor and enjoyed those most special to him. He will be missed by those whose lives he touched. Don is survived by his sons, Michael (Kirsten) and Steven, both of Fargo; mother, Alice (Wenaas) Larson, Hunter, ND; brother, Reggie (Myrna) Wenaas, Perham, MN; three granddaughters, Kendall, Sarah and Lauren Wenaas; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; father, Marvel Wenaas; and sister, Phyllis Dickson. Funeral Service: Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 11:00 AM Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, September 5, 2007 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Public welcome. Burial: Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 2:30 PM at Hunter Cemetery, Hunter, ND.
