Donald died in Fargo at his home on Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was born in Kindred, ND to Alfred and Velva Sorlie, and was raised in Walcott, ND.
He served in the Air Force in Korea and Japan during the Korean War. In August 1952, he married Lorene Helling of Walcott. Lorene died in 1971.
Don initially worked at Fargo Culvert and Fargo Bakery. In 1957 he joined the ND Air National Guard in Fargo and served full time in Base Supply until 1986. He then spent a year in Germany setting up a new Base Supply for the Air Force.
After he retired from the NDANG, he managed the Harwood Legion. He married Shirley Dent in 2000. Don was a lifetime member and past Commander of the Harwood Legion and was very
devoted to the club. He was also a life member of the West Fargo VFW.
Don loved to bowl, hunt, fish, camp, and golf. He was a jack-of-all-trades, built his house at Harwood, and loved to have fun.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, Dale (Deb) Sorlie and Gary (Debbie) Sorlie; grandchildren, Carmel Palm, Miranda Sorlie, and Brianna Sorlie; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Melaena Palm, Zaeden Sorlie-Roehrich and Lilliana Sorlie; step-grandchildren, Aaron, Amber and Ariel; and brother, Kenneth.
Don was preceded in death by 3 wives and his parents.
