Donald Smith

Donald Henry Smith, 86, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, in Essentia Health, Fargo. Donald Henry Smith was born March 5, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska, son of Raymond and Eva (Wigington) Smith. He moved, with his family to Fargo, at the age of five. Don graduated from Moorhead Central High School in 1942. Don served in the North Dakota National Guard. He married Ruth A. Sadek, September 14, 1951, in Fargo, ND. Ruth died April 4, 2004. He worked for many years in the dry cleaning business in the Fargo/Moorhead area retiring in 1999 due to poor health. Don enjoyed spending time at the lakes, debating politics, golfing, bowling, watching the Minnesota Twins, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Donald is survived by his children, Lynn (John) Blokzyl, Los Angeles, CA; Virginia (Henry) Corneliussen, Moorhead, MN; Penney (Larry) Syvertsen, Fargo, ND; Patrick (Marcine) Smith, Punta Gordo, FL; Pamela (Mark) Holm, Moorhead, MN; Perry Smith, Murrietta, CA; Paula (Allen) Newhouse, Moorhead, MN; Peter Smith, West Fargo, ND; Preston (Lynda) Smith, Moorhead, MN; Paige Smith, Maple Grove, MN; and Scott Smith, Fargo, ND; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren; and his girlfriend, Jeanne Olmsted, Cascade, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; grandson, Chad; and one great-granddaughter, Sydney. Funeral Service: Monday, January 10, 2011, at 11:00 AM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Chapel, Fargo. Visitation: Sunday, January 9, 2011, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.
