Donald Sandsmark age 93, passed away at his home on Friday, April 17, 2015.
He was born May 21, 1921 in Hillsboro, ND. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1939. Soon after graduation, he moved to California and he worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA. He returned to Hillsboro to farm with his family after the start of WWII. On October 28, 1945 he married Margaret Sundby, also from Hillsboro. It was the first wedding after World War II at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. After moving to Fargo he worked for Northern Gas and Appliances. He then worked for Fairmont Creamery for 27 years, retiring in 1978, at the age of 57. He had several part time “retirement” jobs, including custodian at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 38 years. He was a charter member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, and remained an active member of the congregation for the remainder of his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alyce Sandsmark Cowden, his aunt, Hazel Sandsmark, and his grandparents Ole and Hannah Sandsmark.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sandsmark; sons, Richard (Kay) Sandsmark, Lengby, MN, William (Dianna) Sandsmark, Fargo and James (Suzanne) Sandsmark, Fargo; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
