Donald D. Lindberg of Fargo died March 14, 2023 after a brief illness. He will be missed by his family, friends, neighbors, (and sometimes strangers) with whom he was always eager to share conversation and jokes. All of the dogs who received a treat on his walks in Lindenwood will also be sorry he's gone.
Don was born to Carl and Emily Lindberg in 1939 in Rolette, ND, and was a lifelong and loyal North Dakotan. He graduated with a BS degree in History from Minot State Teachers College and earned advanced degrees from NDSU and UND. He was a high school teacher for 36 years, 30 of them at Fargo South.
Don and Sara (McDonald) were married in 1961 and had two daughters, Pamela and Barbara. After retirement the couple traveled frequently to Europe, South America and many parts of the US, oftentimes with Pam and Barb.
The early history of Fargo was a constant project of Don's, during which he was a dogged researcher, spending thousands of hours in libraries and archives taking notes and writing his findings. He was able to expound on a surprising number of subjects concerning Dakota Territory in the 1880's.
Don is survived by his wife, Sara of Fargo; daughters, Pam and Barb of Ann Arbor, Michigan; nephew Bruce Ostrem in California, and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Carole Black.
A visitation to remember Don will be held at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo on March 22, 2023 from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to the Fargo Public Library, 101 4th St. N., Fargo, ND 58102.
