Donald J. Klinger, 76, Bethany Homes Retirement Living, Fargo, ND, passed away surrounded by family at Sanford Palliative Care, Monday, March 10, 2014.
Donald was born June 30, 1937 in Washburn, ND to Fredrich and Ida (Schafer) Klinger. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School. Donald was married to Georgiann Novotny until they divorced in 1966. He was married to Deloris Spitzer (Buchholz) in 1968 until her death in 2005.
Donald worked for the US Postal Service. He began his career on the mail trains hauling mail from Montana to St. Paul. He later worked at the downtown Fargo station and then the NDSU station. He returned to the downtown station until he retired in 1993. Donald then moved to Oregon with his wife Deloris where they made their home. In 2013, he moved back to North Dakota.
Donald was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, both in ND and OR. He enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved all sports, especially football; he kept records of every NFL game from 1998-2012.
Donald is survived by his three daughters, Diane (Greg) Braaten, Voltaire, ND; Debra (Dale) Wobbema, Velva, ND; and Jeraldine (Kevin) Anderson, Fargo, ND. Two step daughters, Debra Spitzer, and Jeanene (Ron ) Greenman, West Fargo, ND. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; one niece, Rhonda (Carl) Bakken; and one nephew, Rick Hein.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; sister, Darleen Hein; wife, Deloris and one son.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 1:00PM at Bethany Homes in Fargo.
