Donald (Don) Haga was born to Laura A. Haga (née Fausett) and Virgil D. Haga in their Enderlin, ND, home on June 2, 1928. He lived in Enderlin until June 1941, when he, his sister Melba Jean, and parents moved to Minot, ND.
He was always grateful for his years spent in Enderlin, particularly in the public school system. He attended Minot Public Schools where he graduated in the spring of l946. During his years in high school and college, he played in several dance bands that played in North Dakota, Montana, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Don enrolled in Minot State Teacher's College (now Minot State University) in 1946. The GIs were coming back to college after the war and he was very grateful for the many positive changes that were made to the college and student body because of them. Many of these GIs played in their dance band. He married Lois Jean Bergem in 1948 and they, along with their son Bruce, moved to Outlook, Montana, in 1950 where Don and Lois taught for two years.
The family moved to Fairview, Montana, in the spring of 1952 and then to Sidney, Montana, where their daughter Jean was born. Don was an auto salesman in Sidney and later purchased an interest in the dealership. In Sidney, MT, Don was active in his church, Jaycees, Kiwanis, and politics. The family moved to Richfield, MN, in the summer of l957, where Don worked on the staff of The Travelers Insurance Company for the next five years.
They then settled in Moorhead, MN, in the fall of l962 where Don was named the General Agent for Franklin Life Insurance Company with his office in Fargo, ND. He continued in the insurance field, but gradually changed to employee-benefits insurance and retired at the age of seventy-eight, having sold his business several years before. He was a member of many organizations such as the Minneapolis Life Underwriters Association, the F-M Life Underwriters Association, Red River Valley Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, Board of Regents (Minot State University,) F-M Sertoma Club, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and was involved in politics. He held many offices in most of these organizations over the years.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil D. Haga and Laura A. Fausett Haga, and his wife Lois J. Bergem Haga. He is survived by their children Bruce Haga (Kimberly) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Jean Haga of Fountain Hills, Arizona, three grandchildren, Barrett Haga (Ellie) of Alexandria, VA, Christopher Haga (Xinrui) of Jupiter, FL, and Katherine Haga of Lumberton, NC, and one great granddaughter, Charlotte Haga of Alexandria, VA.
