Dolores Clair Carson

January 7, 1931 — March 26, 2016

Dolores Clair (Dickinson) Carson, age 85, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of Robert W. Carson, Sr.

Dolores was born in Silverleaf, North Dakota on January 7, 1931 and was the daughter of Clair and Irma (Higgs) Dickinson. In her early years she grew up in Ellendale, North Dakota until 1942 when she moved to Fargo, North Dakota and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1948. Dolores was introduced through a dear friend to her future husband, Robert W. Carson Sr., in the men’s sock department at the JCPenney Department Store in Fargo, North Dakota. Dolores and Robert were married on January 15, 1949 at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this past January.

Dolores was an amazing woman and had a true gift for making people feel special. She was very much a social butterfly and loved staying in touch, spending time, and frequently communicating with her family and friends. She was known for making people feel loved, important, and special. Her biggest joy in life was to be surrounded by family members and dear friends. She greatly enjoyed getting to know people in the community, and it was not uncommon to find her striking up a conversation with someone whom she had never met. She truly was a kind, encouraging, and genuine soul that loved serving others and hearing about everyone’s life experiences.

Dolores was passionate about learning and had aspirations to attend college one day after her children were raised. When her youngest son graduated from high school, she enrolled at North Dakota State University as a full time student and graduated with a Bachelor of Art degree in history the same year her son graduated from Concordia College. She worked in the Fargo Public School System as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher, as well as, an interviewer at Job Service of North Dakota.

Dolores cherished her time spent with family and friends at her lake home on Lake Ida. It was a peaceful retreat, and she loved being able to call her cabin her second home.

Dolores is survived b y her husband, Robert Carson Sr., of Fargo; her children, Claire (John) Bergman of Fargo, Robert (Candace) Carson Jr., of Fargo, and Mitchell (Patricia) Carson of Longmont, Colorado; her grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Bishoff of Fargo, Nathan Bergman of Fargo, Jeremy (Monica Spivey) Carson of Boston, Massachusetts, Ryan Carson of Longmont, Colorado, and Matthew Carson of Longmont, Colorado; her great-grandson, William Bishoff of Fargo; and her brother, James (Diane) Dickinson of Lakeville, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clair and Irma (Higgs) Dickinson.
