Dennis A. Groven, 80, of Fargo, ND, passed away on August 9, 2021, under the care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Dennis Ardell Groven was born in Mayville, ND, on June 18, 1941, to Oscar and Alice Groven and was raised in Portland, ND, where he attended Portland Elementary and High School. Dennis enlisted in the US Navy February 29, 1960, was a part of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He married Patricia Gallagher at Pingree Lutheran Church, Pingree, ND, on December 23, 1967, and the two of them celebrated 53 years together. Dennis entered civil service as part of USDA in April 1976 and retired after 30 years of service. In connection with his job the family lived in Huron, SD, Williston, ND, and Munich, ND.
Dennis was an avid sportsman, active in camping, hunting, fishing, and competitive trap shooting. His prize was a bull moose measuring 54½ inches, bagged in Cavalier County in December of 1998. He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Hankinson, ND. He also created woodworking projects ranging from decorated clocks and nameplates to desks and bookshelves.
Dennis loved spending time with his family, especially on camping and hunting trips.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Patricia, Fargo, ND; daughter, Shelly, Watford City, ND; son, Steven and wife Jane, Devils Lake, ND; son, Michael and wife Glori, McVille, ND; grandsons, Liam, Samuel, and Quin; siblings, Orville (Terry), Mildred, Mary Ann, Linda, and Bruce (Vicki); and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Elroy, brothers-in-law, Vernon and Richard, and his infant daughter Sara. Dennis will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will take place at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, 215 7th Street South, Fargo, ND 58103 on Friday, August 13, 2021, at 10 a.m. Lunch to follow at 1846 17th Street South, Fargo, ND. Burial ceremony will be at 1:00 p.m. at Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
