Dennis Vincent Benna entered Glory on Friday, February 8, 2013. Surrounded by his family, peace and rest from his courageous battle with cancer was found.
Dennis was born September 9, 1946 (his mother’s birthday) to Naomi and Vincent Benna in Storm Lake, Iowa. With his family, he grew up on farms in northwest Iowa. Like his dad, Dennis loved ponies, horses, and livestock. He had an appreciation and ethic of farm life that shaped the man he grew to be.
He graduated from Newell High School and completed studies at Iowa State University. It was there he met Judy, driving his brother’s red convertible. He and Judy married while still in Ames, leading to 46 years of devotion.
A love of agriculture and people consistently influenced his professional life. Dennis worked in agricultural finance for 43 years, the last 18 years in Fargo with AgCountry. He was known among those he worked as highly committed to caring and just relationships.
Yet with the commitment he gave his professional life, he also consistently sought out ways to serve the Lord. Dennis served in a number of roles in his spiritual life. From usher to Elder to congregational president to leading Bible studies (often with biscuits and gravy), his life was an active testament to the Word.
Those who know him already know and feel his impression. He loved the water, boating and fishing with family and friends. The family room was often a staging area for organizing lures, lines, reels, and Cabela’s orders. He also spent hours planning (and planning), packing, and scouting in preparation for hunting days and trips with his brother and friends. Antlers hanging in the garage and an extra deep freezer full of game meat were a testament to his frequent success.
Remaining here to carry on his inspiring courage and faith are his loving wife Judy, son Justin, daughter Tiffany, grandson Cody, mother Naomi, sister Denise (and Dewey), brothers Dana (and Claire) and T.R., a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and beloved friends.
