Denis Leroy Svedjan

Denis Leroy Svedjan, 77, of Hillsboro, ND passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center, Mayville, ND.
Denis was born August 2, 1938 in Lucca, ND to Ralph and Helen (Hanson) Svedjan. He was baptized September 11, 1938 in Enderlin, ND. His family moved to the Fargo/Moorhead area where he attended school and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Moorhead, MN on May 17, 1953. In 1956 he graduated from Fargo Central High School and attended North Dakota State University, graduating with a degree in Pharmacy in 1962. He worked in Herried, SD, Wishek, ND, and retired from Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND in 2011.
He married Kay Reppen on November 17, 1962 and later divorced in 1991. They had seven children: Kristi, Kerri, Karla, Michael, Denise, Darci, and Dana. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and long drives in the country. Some of his favorite activities included following Bison football and bird watching. He could tell you anything about any bird. He took pleasure in playing cards, completing crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy. He also enjoyed being at the lake with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. One of his favorite memories was being with his cousins on their farm in Enderlin during the summers when he was a kid, and going to the Knothole (baseball) game with his Grandpa Hanson.
Denis is survived by his children: Kristi (Gary) Beyl, Perley, MN, Kerri (Scott) Wolff, Casselton, ND, Karla (Galen) Zerbe, Glasgow, MT, Michael (Kerry) Svedjan, Key West, FL, Denise (Jim) Jacobsen, Mt Bethal, PA, Darci (David) Hakvaag, Mt Bethal, PA and Dana (Shawn Brekke) Anderson, Nielsville, MN; sister, Karen Settembre, Syracuse, NY; grandchildren: Everett and Alex Beyl, Jenna and Jordyn Wolff, Taylor, Janae, and Regan Zerbe, Austin Svedjan, Cory and Justin Jacobsen, Kimberly and Kayla Hakvaag, Olivia and Audrey Anderson, step-grandson Joseph (Julia) Radaker, and one nephew, Kurt (Jessica) Settembre, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
