Delores Olson

The Lord has opened His arms and our mom has gone home to Him today, the 24th of February, 2011. Delores Leona Carlson Olson was born to Ludvig and Agnes (Bjerke) Carlson on April 1, 1922, on the home farm in Clifford, ND. She was the eldest girl and 4th eldest of nine children. Delores worked very hard all of her life, owning restaurants in Hawley, MN, and Portland, ND, cooking, and in her later years, got involved with the Senior Companion Program in Fargo. She loved her job and she would make sure she was there for them no matter what the conditions outside. Delores loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and of course, watching her daily programs. She enjoyed dining out, especially the “Ultimate Feast” at Red Lobster. She remained very active until battling this short illness. Delores married Lawrence Schmidt (deceased) in 1940, Charles Smith (deceased) in 1957, and Norris Olson (widowed) in 1980. Delores was a very loving, soft hearted, ‘always there for you’ person and she will be deeply missed by her family in too many ways to mention. She was surrounded by her loving family when she took the Lord’s hand home. Delores was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, brothers Arvid, Almer, Odell, and Raymond, her sister Eline Paulson, her daughter Cheryl Lerud, and her grandson Roger Hovelson. She is survived by her sons Donald (Marlys) Schmidt, Gerald (Linda) Schmidt, Lisa Smith Useldinger, brothers Vernon and Mervin Carlson, sister Joyce Beck, many nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren, along with great grand children and great-great grand children as well. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd from 5-7pm at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo, ND, with a Prayer Service following at 7pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at 10am at Triumph West Lutheran Brethren Church in West Fargo, ND, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
