Delores Jean (Blumhagen) Lewis, 82, loving mother, grandmother, nurse and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2013.
Delores was born to Fredericka (Wenning) and Fred Blumhagen on June 29, 1930 in Fessenden, ND. She grew up and graduated High School from the Fessenden Orioles in 1950. While in high school, she worked as an assistant to the local doctor’s office, which is where she decided to become a nurse. She attended nursing school in Minot from 1950 – 1952. After graduation with a 3 year RN degree, she came to Fargo and began working at St. John’s Hospital.
Delores also worked for Dakota Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit for heart patients from 1968-1971.
She continued her career after taking a nursing refresher course at Moorhead Tech, working at Elim Nursing Home from 1983 until her retirement in 1992.
Delores met Arlie W. Lewis while working at St. John’s. They married on September 24, 1955. They had four children, Arlinda, Fargo, Thomas (Joyce), Detroit Lakes, Tracy (Jean), Kindred, Jay Lewis, Horace.
Delores has seven grandchildren, Bonnie (Matt) Johnson, Miranda Lewis, Tiffany Lewis, Jessica Lewis, Joshua Lewis, Shelby (Mike Larson), Emalee Lewis; six great-grandchildren, Briana, Chase, Carter, Kane, Nikiya and Brooklyn.
Delores is also survived by her sisters, Leona Harris, St. Paul and Bernice (Lawrence) Walters and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie W. Lewis; parents; son, Thomas Lewis; granddaughter, Meghan Lewis; brothers, Leroy and Clarence Blumhagen; sisters, Eleanora (Harry Jr.) Lacy, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
