Delores Ruth Lang was born August 8, 1929 in Lehr, ND, the youngest of 14 children born to John and Katherine (Mayer) Lang, German immigrants from Bessarabia, South Russia. 1946 was a bittersweet year for Delores. She married her sweetheart, Melvin Elhard and buried her infant daughter Caron Faye. Six years later, her second daughter, Carolyn Kay, was born. Delores and family lived in Jamestown until 1959 when they moved to Fargo where she worked hard at whatever she undertook; whether it was cooking for her family, tending her garden or managing a diner (Simonson’s Café). She also worked at Silverline Boats and finally at NDSU food service where she retired in 1995.
Melvin passed away in 1976 and after several years alone, Delores met and married her second husband, Harold Jordahl. Harold and Delores traveled throughout the US for the next 10 years. They never missed a Christmas in Georgia where her daughter Carolyn lived. After Harold passed away and Delores became ill, she moved to Georgia in 2000 to be near her daughter.
Delores is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Elhard Conway, of Decatur, AL; stepdaughters, Debra McCullough of Centerville, GA; Kathi Trottier of Horace, ND; Pam Lewis of Vergas, MN; and Gayle Kerkow of Mauldin, SC; sister, Christine Hillenbrand of Ellendale, ND; brother, Reinhold (Micky) Lang of Andover, MN; grandson, Sean Conway (Joy) of Huntsville, AL; granddaughter, Tara (Destin) Sandlin of AL; and 4 great-grandchildren.
