Dean Long passed away on October 2, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Dean was born on May 1, 1928 in Sioux Falls, SD to Roy E. and Margaret (Reichart) Long. He graduated from Central High, Aberdeen, SD in 1946 and served in the Army from 1946-1948 in Japan. On September 8, 1950, he married Joyce Ferguson in Aberdeen, SD and went on to graduate from the NDSU College of Pharmacy in 1954.
He worked and was a partner in Service Drug Stores in Fargo, ND and Detroit Lakes, MN. Later he owned and operated Long Southside Drug and from 1982-1993 he was a Pharmacy Consultant for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. He retired in 1993 and made his summer residence on Lake Melissa near Detroit Lakes, MN and winters were spent in Sun City West, AZ.
Dean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fargo where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Elder. He was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and served as General Chairman of the Soap Box Derby. He was also active in Boy Scouts at both the troop and district level.
Dean is survived by his wife, Joyce; his son, William R. (Jane) Long, Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Mary (Brent) Qualey, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Andrea (Roberto) Barcenas, Cynthia Qualey, Zach (Caryn Reynolds) DiCicco; and three great-grandchildren, Lila, Maya and Alex Barcenas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dewain.
