David V. LeVine, 87, Fargo, ND., passed away on December 24, 2023, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo.
He was born in Minneapolis, May 14, 1936, to Vernon and Alice Levine. Graduating from Willmar HS in 1954, he worked for two years in a south Minneapolis supermarket before enlisting in the US Army. During his service, he became a disc jockey and news announcer for Far East Network/Tokoyo and anchored Good Morning Tokyo. His love for broadcasting was born.
In 1960, he was a staff announcer for KDHL Radio, Faribault, MN, and from 1961 to 1967, a television sports anchor at KXMB in Bismarck, ND.
His sales career included 13 years with Xerox Corporation and eight years with American Express. In the 1980s, he was part owner of a Las Vegas, NV restaurant and lounge and a radio blow-by-blow fight broadcaster.
He married Doris Lunde in 1963. They later divorced in 1981, and together, they had two daughters. He is survived by daughters, Nancy Light (Brad Whelan) of Stillwater, MN and Laura Zabel (Todd) of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Hannah (Adam) Lenczuk, of St. Anthony, MN., Daniel Light, of Rogers, MN., Alyssa and Kai Zabel, of Fargo, ND.
Dave’s love for writing inspired him to author “A Minnesotan Takes a U-Turn” and “My Eight Innings of Baseball Joy.” Dave always enjoyed a good laugh and loved a good joke. His favorite saying was, “God created baseball to provide a reminder of the beauty of grass, blue sky, and a hot dog. “
