Darlene Elaine Casler was born April 9, 1933 in Fargo, North Dakota, the fourth child of Irvin Casler and Thelma (Barsgaard) Casler. She attended school in Fargo and as a young woman worked in the women’s sportswear department at deLendrecie’s department store in downtown Fargo. She was married to Don Lee Severson, also of Fargo, on June 24, 1955. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother to their three children and a creative homemaker. Because of Don’s career with Massey Ferguson, the family moved several times. After each move Darlene quickly transformed the new house into a pleasant home with her talent for home decorating. She was a skilled seamstress who sewed curtains and other decorative items, as well as clothing for herself and her children. She continued to sew for herself, her children and her home until the final days of her life. She worked for many years as bookkeeper at Severson Implement, a family-owned business in Willmar, and later as a design associate at Calico Corners in Scottsdale, Arizona and in the custom carpet and window treatment department of Sears at West Acres in Fargo.
Darlene is survived by her husband Don of Atwater and Rochert, her son Don Lee II (Debra) of Willmar, her daughters Leslie Severson (Kazuhiro Nomura) of Irvine, California and Kim Severson (Philip Jemielita) of North Oaks, six grandsons, Joshua Severson, Matthew, Thomas and Isaac Jemielita and Oscar and William Nomura, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws, all of whom will miss her terribly.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Irvin Jr., Maurice and Wallace Casler and sister Phyllis (Casler) Reeves.
