Daniel Larter Wallace, 48, formerly of Grand Forks died Monday, May 7, 2012, in Fargo, North Dakota. Dan was born April 16, 1964, to Elaine LeTourneau Wallace and John L. Wallace in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He graduated from Red River High School in Grand Forks in 1982. While in high school, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout at age 16. He attended the University of North Dakota and graduated in May of 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in natural science, and in December of 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in earth science and a minor in biology. Dan served his country with 22 years of military service with the Army National Guard and the U.S. Army. He served tours of duty in Thailand, in Germany, and in Iraq. Dan will be remembered fondly as a prolific letter writer, a long-distance bicyclist, and a hiker. He also enjoyed scuba diving when younger. He was a doting uncle to his nieces and nephew and generous beyond measure. Dan is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and John Rich of Miami, Florida; his step-sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Bohnet and Lowell Liebenow of Grand Forks; his step-sister, Diane Bohnet, of Occidental, California; his maternal aunt, Alice Ann Walker, of St. Petersburg, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Lee Bohnet, in 1999; his mother, Elaine LeTourneau Bohnet, in 2005, and his brother, William Larter Wallace, in 2006. Memorials are preferred to the local Boy Scouts of America chapter in Dan’s name.
