Daniel John Tennefos, 67, went to be with Jesus on November 16, 2021, in Mesa, AZ, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dan was born in Bismarck, ND, on January 2, 1954, to Jeanne (Quamme) and Burl Dutt. He was then adopted by Jens Tennefos in 1960 after Jeanne remarried. Dan graduated from Oak Grove High School, Fargo, ND, in 1972. He met Joan (Fedje) at North Dakota State University, where he graduated with a degree in business. Dan married Joan in 1976, and they made their home in Bismarck, where he worked in sales. In 1982, the family moved to Fargo, where Dan opened a Tidy Car franchise. Dan and Joan raised their three children, Krista, Jacob, and Daniel, in South Fargo.

In 1989, Dan felt called into ministry and began learning Greek on his own before studying at the Lutheran Brethren Seminary in Fergus Falls, MN, in 1990. He graduated with a Master of Divinity. Dan took a call to Living Word Church in Joshua, TX, and pastored there for seven years. In 1999, he returned to Fargo to help manage Tennefos Properties. He served as Triumph Lutheran Brethren's Care Pastor from 2012 until 2018. He and Joan began spending winters at Towerpoint Resort in Mesa, AZ, and served as chaplain. They enjoyed Lake Bijou summers in Minnesota. Dan enjoyed coaching his kids' sports teams, leading numerous Bible studies, playing drums, watching Bison football, and celebrating the joy of his four grandsons.

Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Milton and Grace Quamme; John and Beatrice Dutt; his parents, Jens and Jeanne Tennefos, and Burl Dutt. Dan is survived by his wife, Joan (Fedje) Tennefos, Lake Park, MN and Mesa, AZ; children, Krista Holter (Mark), Fargo, ND; Jacob Tennefos (Leah), Moorhead, MN; Daniel Jens Tennefos (Sarah), Fargo, ND; siblings, David Tennefos (Vicky), Rapid City, SD; Judie VandeVoort, Fargo, ND; Mary Shoji (David), Honolulu, HI; and four grandchildren, Jorgen, Andrew, Samuel, and Dean.

In honor of Dan's love of Christian education, sports, and music, memorials can be sent to Park Christian School, Moorhead, MN.
