Daniel Olgaard

Daniel “Boosey” Stephen Olgaard was born October 15, 1915, on his maternal grandparents’ farm near Cooperstown, ND, and was the son of Swen and Hilma (Erickson) Olgaard. He was the oldest of five boys. After graduation from Cooperstown High School in 1933, he worked on his grandparents’ farm and clerked in various businesses in Cooperstown. Despite losing his right eye in a childhood accident, he proudly served in World War II, US Army Air Corp from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946 after serving in Ft. Snelling, MN and Greenland overseas. He returned to Cooperstown and worked for J.C. Penney and Model Clothing Store. Daniel was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Sons of Norway club. He was also past President of Lincoln Toastmaster Club, Cooperstown KP Lodge, and the Fargo Acro Team. Daniel married Ardys Ione Peerson on September 9, 1951, at the Hillsboro Congregational Church. Following their marriage, he moved to Fargo where he was employed by Dakota Electric Supply Company for 31 years before retiring in 1982. Daniel is survived by his wife, Ardys; son, Stephen (Connie), Fargo, ND; daughter, Carolyn (Scott) Stenseth, Fargo, ND; grandson, Casey Olgaard; two step-granddaughters, Becki Hegeholz, Moorhead, MN, and Patti Hegeholz, West Fargo, ND; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Coby, and Trinity; sisters-in-law, Senora Olgaard, Casper, WY, Gloria Olgaard, Frankenmuth, MI, Margaret Peerson, Renton, WA, and Paula Cooper, Mesa, AZ, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Oswald, Ralph, and twins Kermit and Kenneth; granddaughter, Mara Lee Olgaard; and great-grandson, Lane Hegeholz. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Congregational Church of Fargo, Sons of Norway, local food pantry, or the charity of choice. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 19, at 2PM at First Congregational Church UCC in Fargo. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, from 5-7PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
