Dallas Kent Monson, Fargo, North Dakota, son of Palmer and Mae (Gordon) Monson, was born January 3, 1928. He grew up on a farm homesteaded by his grandfather, Harald Monson, in rural Traill County near Cummings, North Dakota. He attended Belmont Consolidated School, Traill County, North Dakota, and was baptized and confirmed in nearby Salem Lutheran Church.
Mr. Monson assisted his father on the family farm until he attended North Dakota State College of Science at Wahpeton, North Dakota, and graduated in 1949 with a certificate in Auto Body Repair. He was drafted for service in the United States Army in 1951 and served overseas in Korea until he was honorably discharged in January 1953.
After his military service, he returned to Fargo, North Dakota, and worked for Jackson Construction Company and General Trading Company where he met Joyce Hanson. They were married on June 12, 1954, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dalton, Minnesota, and made their home in Fargo, North Dakota. Dallas earned a business degree in 1955 at Dakota Business College in Fargo and then worked as an accountant in Fargo businesses Acme Welding Supply and Structural Products, which he helped to organize from the beginning. He was also employed at Forbes Architectural Products in Moorhead, Minnesota, as an estimator/installer and later at North Dakota State University as a heavy equipment operator.
After his retirement from NDSU in 1990, Dallas continued to work part time in the summer months for the Fargo Park District on the grounds crew at Lindenwood Park until 1993. He and Joyce frequently escaped North Dakota winters and traveled to California, Washington, D.C. and Florida. Dallas enjoyed singing in the choir at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo where he was a member for over 50 years, and he had lifelong interests in building and construction.
Mr. Monson is preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Mae Monson; and brother, Walter Monson. Dallas is survived by his wife, Joyce; sister, Deloris Stauning, Beltrami, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Dennis) Munson, Lake Park, Minnesota; daughter, Julie (Roger) Hill, Rockledge, Florida; son, Bradley (Kristi) Monson, Fargo; and three grandchildren, Garrett, Aaron and Emma Monson, all of Fargo.
