Dale A. Sorlie

March 22, 1954 — September 19, 2013

Dale Ardell Sorlie, West Fargo, went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2013, after a courageous four year battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). He was born March 22, 1954 in Moorhead, MN to Donald and Lorene (Helling) Sorlie. He lived his entire life in the Harwood and West Fargo area, graduating from West Fargo High School in 1972. He married the love of his life, Debra Mathews at Osterdalen Lutheran Church in Argusville, ND on May 25, 1973. Dale was an avid outdoorsman; loved to hunt, fish, camp and ride motorcycle. He loved the summers we spent at the lake with our daughters, and winter vacations to get away from the cold. He especially loved the trips to Mexico, the Caribbean and Las Vegas, fishing in Canada, and the Air National Guard deployments to Alaska and Curacao. He also loved spending time with and watching his grandchildren grow.

He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend. Dale was kind to everyone he met and could instantly light up any room he entered with his fun-loving and personable nature. He was an inspiration to everyone around him, and led a valiant fight day in and day out, always staying positive with a kind smile for everyone. Dale was the epitome of what a husband, father, and grandfather should be. He showed his family what it truly means to be a good person, and taught us that we are stronger than we think we are.

Dale worked many jobs over the years. He served 22 years in the ND Air National Guard on the flight line and in maintenance control. He was a proud member of the Harwood American Legion. He worked in the communications field from 1982 - 2000, at Diversified Communications, and was part owner of Superior Telephone Systems from 1984 - 1992. He sold RVs for Pleasureland RV, and spent 2007 in Gillette, Wyoming working as a haul truck driver for Rio Rinto Energy at Cordero Mine. He returned to deliver fuel for Holiday, Inc. He retired in 2011 due to health reasons.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Debra; daughters: Carmel Palm, Brianna Sorlie, West Fargo, Miranda Sorlie, Fargo; four grandchildren: Jaxon and Melaena Palm, Lilliana Sorlie, and Zaeden Sorlie-Roehrich. Brother: Gary (Debbie), Hutchinson, MN; an aunt, uncle, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was very grateful for the love and support he received from everyone, especially all his bowling, card club friends and caregivers.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lorene and his father Donald.
