Dale Odin Anderson died peacefully April 20th 2017 at Kinder Care in West Fargo, ND.
Dale Odin Anderson, tireless supporter of North Dakota, was born April 2, 1937 in Dunn Center, ND to Odin and Erna Anderson of Gladstone, ND. Dale graduated from Dunn Center High School, achieved his undergraduate degree in Agriculture Economics from North Dakota State University in 1960, and was awarded his PhD in Agriculture Economics from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK in 1965. He married Claudia Ann Brown on June 12, 1960. They had two children, Sonjia and Sheldon and five grandchildren, Kellie, Rolf, Gunnar, Ingrid, and Siri.
Dale and Claudia returned to Fargo, ND and North Dakota State University as a Professor of Agricultural Economics in 1965. Dale was named the Director of the Water Research Institute in 1969 and the Director of the Transportation Institute in 1971. He received the North Dakota State University Heritage Award in 2012. He was an active member of Team Makers, and served as President of Team Makers from 1979-1980.
Dale joined the Greater North Dakota Association in 1974. He served as the President of the Greater North Dakota Association from 1981through 2003. He received the Greater North Dakotan Award in 2012.
Dale was also active in Toastmaster and received the Distinguished Toastmasters Award from Toastmasters International in 1976.
Since 2006, Dale had worked with Sanford Health to develop services for those with Huntington’s disease and their families, including an HD clinic and support group and also played an integral role in developing the Northern Prairie Affiliate, an affiliate of the Huntington Disease Society of America in 2011. He received the HDSA Person of the Year award in 2013.
Dale has served many leadership roles with his church.
Dale is survived by his wife, Claudia; children, Sonjia, Fargo and son, Sheldon, Minneapolis; grandchildren, Rolf, Gunnar, Ingrid, and Siri of Bloomington and Kellie, of Fargo; Sisters, Sharon Sorensen, Lakeview, Michigan and Linda Perhus, Taylor; plus extended family.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wayne.
