C. Norman Engstrom

March 9, 1926 — February 23, 2007

Norm Engstrom was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 9th 1926, and ended his life journey Friday, February 23rd 2007. His parents were Francis Ellen (Parker) and Carl Oscar Engstrom. In his youth, Norm was a Star Boy Scout and a multi-year track letterman at Robinsdale, Minnesota High School graduating in June of 1943. He was active in several theatrical plays, the concert and pep bands and a member of the National Honor Society. Norm was a WWII veteran, who earned the Bronze Star, and advanced to the rank of Sergeant serving in Luxembourg and Germany in the B Company of the 417th Regiment, 76th Division. He was wounded during three battles, including those of the Sauer and Moselle River Valleys, during the Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge). Norman graduated from Brown Institute of Broadcasting and began a lifelong career in radio broadcasting and management. Norm was well known in the radio broadcast industry with over thirty years service with WDAY AM/FM in varying capacities as on-air talent to program director. He was professionally recognized and served as the president of the North Dakota Broadcasting Association. In 1947, Norman married Alice Eleanor Lampi on September 6th at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Miles City, Montana. Daughter, Noreen was born in Miles City, and son, David in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family grew through various moves and job positions and made their final home in 1964, in Fargo, North Dakota. Norm and Alice were married for 57 years, until Alice’s death in 2005. Norm was very independent, even to the end. He enjoyed all people and traveled across the county. The larger legacy is his family. This legacy is devoted to serving others through medical, pubic service, business and many other aspects of life in the Fargo community and beyond. Norm is survived by daughter, Noreen (Joe) Tamerius, Fargo, ND; son, David (Deborah) Engstrom, Sylvania, OH; brothers, Dennis Engstrom, Anchorage, AK; and Donald Engstrom, Brooklyn Park, MN; four grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) Rasmussen, Sabin MN; Jessica (Kevin) Williams, Eugene, OR; Branden and Dane Engstrom, Sylvania, OH; four great grandchildren, Taylor and Stella Williams, Taylor and Reid Rasmussen. Funeral: Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at 2pm, at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Visitation: Tuesday, February 27, 2007, from 5-7pm, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
