Clayton D. Tietgens, 87, of Fargo, ND, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at MeritCare in Fargo. Clayton was born January 4, 1923, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Dougald and Mara (Nagel) Tietgens. He went to school in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High in 1941. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1941. He served six years, leaving the Navy with an honorable discharge in October 1947. On leaving the Navy, Clayton started his own business picking up and delivering dry cleaning and laundry in surrounding counties. Clayton was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. On July 3, 1948, Clayton married the love of his life, Margaret Christiansen, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Minnesota, and enjoyed 61 ½ years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, David (Kathy); daughter, Diane (Spencer) Russell; brothers, Bill, Amarillo, TX; Edward (Ilo), Brentwood, TN; sister, Gloria (Dean) Sladek, Chagrin Falls, OH; three grandsons, Justin, Jarod and Jesse Mund; two granddaughters, Tressa (Mark) Torno and Stephanie (Brian) Chinquist; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Service: Friday, January 8, 2010, at 2:00 PM, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, at a later date.
