Clara Snippen

Clara Snippen, 92, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Bethany Homes, Fargo. Clara Ruth Schellack was born March 28, 1916, near Glyndon, Minnesota, the youngest of the 12 children of Fred and Bertha (Wendtland) Schellack. She attended school at Pleasant Valley School Glyndon District and graduated from Moorhead High School. Clara managed a Rooming House in 1940. She married Harvey Owen Snippen June 28, 1941. In 1941, she began managing the Powers Hotel in Fargo. She attended Joseph’s Beauty School in Fargo. Clara also sold Avon door-to-door, while her children were in school. She enjoyed the many “coffee breaks” with her customers. Clara and Harvey had a lake home on Pelican Lake, Minnesota, and spent summers there. There were many celebrations with family and friends, especially the 4th of July tradition. She also taught many people how to water ski. She was very active in First Lutheran Church. She belonged to Intercessors, helped serve during funerals and anniversaries and even managed to read every book that the church library holds. Clara enjoyed her time as a homemaker from 1950, until moving into Bethany Homes March of 2008. She took great joy in being involved with the raising of her granddaughter Sienna and remained close to her. Clara is survived by her daughter, Suzann (Jim “Ed” Reckner) Near, Moorhead, MN; and granddaughter, Sienna (Timothy Anderson) Near, Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey, who died in 1998; and son, Bradley Snippen, who died in 1990. Funeral Service: Monday, September 29, 2008, at 10:00 AM, at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Sunday, September 28, 2008, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Prayer Service: Sunday, September 28, 2008, at 7:00 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
